Yesterday the Vanhammer40K tournament was held, with everyone showing up, the games running on schedule and all players conducting themselves in the spirit of the event. I'd like to thank all participants for making the event enjoyable to run.
The event was held at Gamestars in Langley B.C. - definitely the best in-store wargaming venue in the lower mainland. Not only do they sell G.W. product at U.S. prices (so we don't get shafted by G.W.'s refusal to adjust their Canadian pricing) but they actively support the local gaming community by providing ample gaming space for free! Their details are here: http://gamestars.ca/
Currently they can put up ten gaming tables but have room for approximately 20. It is also the home of the 'A-Club' - who store the club terrain in a spacious private storage area, and contributed the majority (70% of the total) terrain to the tournament, with remaining scenery furnished by Adrian Trollip and Myself.
Tables were set to 1/4 terrain - with an 18"x4' section of each table filled with terrain before being placed to ensure sufficient terrain.
The winners were:
Best General - Andrew Watkins - Orks

Best Painted - Scott deWynter-Wilkie - Orks

Favourite Opponent - Nick Daniels - Imperial Guard

Each player received a trophey and split the $400 prize pool (with Favourite opponent receiving the extra penny ;) )

Thanks again for doing such
Thanks again for doing such an amazing job Paul!
It was my first big tourney, I had a lot of fun, got to play against some unique and challenging armies, as well as meet some awesome people!
Looking forward to the next one!

Nice!
Awesome job Paul!
I really enjoyed playing in your Tournament (even though I had the worst result ever in a tournament setting, oh well can't win them all).
Everything was on time, 1,500 points was great for 2 hour games and sportsmanship was organized possibly the best way you can organize it.
Loved the venue too.
Keep up the good work.

Your sisters did well - 4th in the Killpoint differential
Seems your sisters were fairly solid.
Much of the effort went into eliminating potential issues
-Mostly Standard missions to prevent imbalance
-Different mission types so no one army got advantage
-Mission briefings public prior to tournament to allow people to tweak
-Sportsmanship 'punkproofed' to stop poor losers being asshats
-Best painting being a player vote to prevent 'score by numbers' or 'argue with T.O.' arguments
-Terrain 1/4 tabled to ensure enough terrain and no shooting galleries
-Strict timetable and plenty of warnings
-Detailed scoring sheets with crosschecking (this corrected a few errors)
-Tournament overlord software - SO EASY
-No results posted to prevent players that are at the top end getting overly competitive because they know exactly how close they are
-Ettiquette brief to prevent common player issues
-Store credit rather than prizes to allow winners to choose what they want
It all paid off in the end - only very minor rules questions.
